Electro-polishing is a subtractive electro-chemical process that effectively removes material from metallic products, producing a polished, passivated, and deburred finish. Also known as electrochemical or electrolytic polishing, it is a preferred method over abrasive processes for metal finishing.
The process uses direct current (DC) to complete a circuit between the workpiece, which is connected to the positive (anodic) terminal, and a suitable conductor, which is connected to the negative (cathodic) terminal.
The workpiece and conductor are both submerged in an electrolyte. The outcome is a superior finish with cleaner, smoother, and more radiant metal parts.
